TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - Leaders of the Terre Haute Children's Museum say the big crowds for the grand opening weekend of its new building far exceeded expectations.

The museum had more than 7,000 visitors for its Friday through Sunday activities, with about 4,000 on Saturday alone.

Museum board member Rich Dunkin told the Tribune-Star that the turnout was unbelievable and that he hadn't see such a response during all his years in the city.

An appearance by PBS science show host Bill Nye was among several special activities marking the museum's move into a 26,000 square-foot building that is nearly nine times bigger than the old museum that was closed last month.
